St
Bede's Community Project
The Church
working with the community, seeking a better quality of
life for all.
As a major part of our discipleship and desire to follow
God faithfully, St Bede's is seeking to serve the community
more faithfully. The chief way we are doing this is through
our Community Project, which is a separate charity.
Process
Over the past few years, we have been engaging in a very
exciting process. We have carried out relationship building
conversations and interviews with most of the agencies who
work in our parish and with a significant number of local
residents.
Goals
From this we have established a number of goals which we
are seeking to meet in partnership with other groups and
people of good will.
These include
- bereavement services for children and young people
- facilities for children, young people and families
- improving access to information
- improving the neighbourhood
- housing quality
Partnership
Our working with Beyond the Horizon means that there is now
a professional Bereavement Counselling service in
Brandwood, based at St Bede's (email jeanette@beyondthehorizon.org.uk
to use this service).
The Community Project's major priority now is to work with
others to improve facilities for children, young people and
families in Brandwood.
During the past few months we have been working in close
partnership with children and staff from Woodthorpe Primary
School. As a result of this work we will soon be seeing
more litter bins and more spring bulbs in the area. The
security fencing at the school is being improved and we are
agitating for more detached youth workers in Brandwood.
As part of our Community Project's work, St Bede's is a
member of Birmingham Citizens, a broad based community
organization of churches, mosques, unions and schools,
taking effective action together to create positive change
in our local communities.
